"JoKyR and Jesster" classes focus on character development and heightening through emotional affectation.
The goal is to improvise from an emotional perspective that keeps an improviser out of their heads and
connected to their scene partner(s).
Classes can be customized for all levels of improv experience. We have syllabi for 6-8 week courses as well
as 2-3 hour workshops taylor made for festivals. We are also available for private coaching.
Feel free to contact us for
more information.
Sample Classes:
Two's Company - around 2-3 hours
Two person scenes rule! So why would you need more
than two people in your group? This class will show
you how two people can do it all. Learn how to commit
to a scene when no one's there to bail you out! Trust
in yourself and be your own back line with character
switches, pivots, solo starts, and monologues. All
while learning to develop themes by keeping all that
information in your back pocket rather than in your
head.
Get in Your Heart - around 2 hours
Tired of getting stuck in your head? Learn how to
keep a scene going and feel your way to success.
We'll show you how you can easily heighten a
situation once you recognize how everyone feels,
including you.
Endless Characters - around 2 hours
Learn how to draw from an endless supply of vibrant
characters, rather than just your stock five.
Characters can be created immediately, without relying
on cliche stereotypes or lengthy explanations. It's
about simple choices, perception, and commitment.
Throw away that fallback Jamaican pot-smoker and be
inspired!
Listen Up - around 2 hours
In this class we will help you find out what is going
on in a scene by observing what is there, already.
"Yes And" is about agreement and expansion, but you
can't agree if you don't know what you're saying "yes"
to. Abandon your agenda and work as a team.
SCENIC IMPROV INTENSIVE - around 4 hours
Be it short or long, the heart of all good improv is a
good scene. This intense workshop will strip away the
frills of format and narration, so you can discover
what really makes a scene shine or suck. Be prepared
for a workout in character skills, listening, and
emotional development. Cut the crap and go straight
for the jugular!
Student Testimonials:
"The instructors were supportive, helpful and, of course, funny."
"These instructors were organized and kept the energy high. I enjoyed their comments and they
created a safe environment where we could extend ourselves."
"The environment both teachers created was fantastic! This is a scary thing to attempt so having
these two supportive, expert, fun teachers makes it do-able."
"I really liked the team approach and how 'literate' our instructors were about the realm of improv."
"I felt a lot of the things I have problems with you guys dealt with, and after two hours I honestly feel
like a smarter performer."
"I have a problem with honest reaction (and even more of a problem when the
scene energy changes) and [your class] helped me to see the importance of
emotional commitment to my scene partner(s)."
"EVERYONE in our group thought you
guys were great. Everyone shared what they got from the class, and
[our director] has incorporated some of your ideas into our last two rehearsals.
We got just what we needed. My own thought is that we were stagnating
and needed someone to say, 'get off your ass and play'."
"I especially love learning from people I’ve seen on stage and respect."
"I was slightly apprehensive about a workshop led by two people, but the balance between you and the way you
shared control was wonderful. Very exciting and enjoyable workshops."
"I loved what we did and I honestly felt like I grew as a performer after those two hours. You guys are great
teachers in that you are really supportive. You root for your students and are both brilliant and accessible
at the same time."
"I took your duo improv workshop in Miami and was by far one of the best workshop experiences I've ever had."
"I just wanted to drop you a quick line and say thanks again for the
workshops this weekend. They were extremely enjoyable and very helpful."
