We're 422!

Inspired by a shared hotel room experience at DCM 5, 422 reunites four improvisers that started out together but ended up apart. 422 is Jesse Parent, Austin Nava, Jady Brooks, and Ryan Locante. Watch as we explore relationships, ourselves, and the finer side of hotel living. At last year's Del Close Marathon, we had a sweltering weekend of intrigue, insanity, and improv. Now we're back, to take our two-bed antics on stage.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's 422!

All four have a passion for improv that is unparalleled. We have studied long form improv in Utah, NYC, Chicago, and NC. With a mixture of age, background, and friendship, we will provide a truly unique piece of improv. We perform a playful long form with a complete lack of judgement of anything said or done.

We're 422!

422's brief history began in Knock Your Socks Off (KYSOff) in Utah. All four have collaborated lovingly in such groups as Peddlington (Ryan and Jady), Massprov (Jesse and Austin), and The Saint (Ryan, Jesse, and Austin with Ross White) as well as in festival teams such as Junkmen in Utah's Comedy Extravaganza 2003 (Jesse and Austin with Jake Arky), Landfill Martyr in Utah's Septemberprov (Ryan, Jesse, and Austin with Jake Arky, Troy Taylor, and Steve Uribe), the Foul Mohicans at CIF 7's Improv All Night (Ryan and Jesse with Dave Sawyer, Dan Telfer, Justin Curtis, Mason Davis, and Eddie Dunn), Resivorpmi Dawgs in Utah's Trolley Brawl 1 (Ryan and Jady with Emily Shepard, Larry Ganz, Ben Brinton), and at Dirty South Improv's 2nd annual 24:LIVE event (with Austin and Ryan as part of the core cast and Jesse as a contributor). Now, Jesse is the only one still in Utah while Ryan and Jady moved to Chicago, and Austin moved to North Carolina.

Some call Jesse the forefather of "In-Your-Face" Utah long form. Some call Austin the sweetest, most compassionate, sympathetic improviser ever. Some call Jady a sensitive female who finds insult in everything. Some pigeonhole Ryan as creepy, but deep down inside, we all think he's just being himself on stage... which is even creepier. Combined, these four have a balanced mix of wit and slow comedy.

Sometimes aggressive... sometimes touching... sometimes serious... sometimes silly... always fun!

Jesse Parent
Jesse Parent

Jesse was bit by the acting bug early in life, but tends to find it inconvenient, so he ignores it. In 1992, Jesse started college at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and was heavily involved in theater, joing the Masque and MW Repertory Theater groups as an actor (and even once a director), as well as being inducted into the national theater honor fraternity Alpha Psi Omega. In his first year at college, Jesse became involved in Chain Link Fence, which was WPI's improvisational acting troupe. Jesse was actively involved with the troupe until his graduation in 1996, occasionally helping out when they performed at reunions he happened to be at.

Jesse moved to Utah immediately after receiving his computer science degree, taking a long break from acting and improv to focus on work and family. In 2001, he took a class with the Skinny Lincoln's (now ComedySportz Salt Lake) Lincoln Hoppe because he missed improv and was reintroduced to the art form he loved. He then took workshops with Quick Wits' Bob Bedore and Knock Your Socks Off's (KYSOff's) Joseph Kyle Rogan and was asked to join KYSOff in November of 2001.

Jesse has performed with KYSOff regularly and has also performed with Quick Wits, Off the Wall, and TBA - In No Particular Order as well as in local festivals such as Trolley Brawl (with the team Off the Cuff), The Quick Wits Clearfield Comedy Extravaganza (with the team The Junkmen), Septemberprov (with KYSOff, JoKyR and Jesster, and the team Landfill Martyr), and Decemberprov (with JoKyR and Jesster and Discrete Packaging). He also has taught improv classes for KYSOff, QW Clearfield, TBA - In No Particular Order, and Off the Wall in Utah and Guerilla Improv in Massachusetts. He has performed in the fifth annual Chicago Improv Festival with KYSOff as well as in the sixth annual Chicago Improv Festival with other improvisers on the team The Foul Mohicans at the Improv All Night event. Jesse has taken workshops with Andy Eninger, Charna Halpern, Joe Bill, Todd Stashwick, Gary Austin, Ross White, Noah Gregoropoulos, Craig Cackowski, Sean Conroy, TJ Jagadowski and Mick Napier. Jesse also performed in the 5th Annual Del Close Marathon and Dirty South Improv's 2nd Annual 24:Live with 'The Saint', which included Ryan Locante, Ross White, and Austin Nava. He currently travels around Utah and beyond performing as the second half of JoKyR and Jesster.

Austin Nava
Austin Nava

Currently studying improvisation in North Carolina, Austin's improv roots are originally from Utah. Having studied improv for three years Austin has developed a true passion for the art.

He started out attending classes with Quick Wits Bob Bedore. After studying with Bob for 2 months he was asked to join the Quick Wits improv troupe in February of 2001. He committed much of his time to theater repairs, and the study of improvisation. After a year he began to teach workshops for Quick Wits and found it to be something he truly enjoyed. He enjoyed a good 2 year run in the Clearfield Utah location, taking any opportunity he could to study improvisation. Whether it be at a workshop or gathering a group of friends with some books and studying together.

He decided to broaden his horizons by attending workshops with the Salt Lake City troupe Knock Your Socks Off (KYSOff), which received the 2002 slammy award from SLC weekly. After a couple of months of classes with Knock Your Socks Off's founder Joseph Kyle Rogan, he was asked to join the troupe. Gaining a new perspective from the troupe's directors Ryan Locante, Mario Mendez, Luke Johnson, and Joe Beatty. As well as attending a Long Form intensive with Ross White that would later have a tremendous influence on his views towards improv, as well open up an opportunity at a later time to study in North Carolina.

Austin had the itch to really teach and spread improvisation. He and two other gentlemen with a passion for improvisation, Derek Hendricks and Caleb Parry, Founded the troupe Off The Wall. This troupe spread like wildfire opening 3 new locations within 8 months. During this time he began a major in Psychology at Weber State University, all the while studying with KYSOff. During the summer of 2003 he performed with The Saint (Ross White, Ryan Locante, and Jesse Parent) at the 5th Annual Del Close Marathon. All the while a small flame burned to study in North Carolina with Dirty South Improv (DSI).

The flame quickly became a fire when he performed with The Core during DSI's 24Live show for the Women's Benefit. He committed to moving and studying in North Carolina. He went through all of the DSI training courses and is currently instructing classes for DSI.

Austin has taught classes for Quick Wits, Knock Your Socks Off, Dirty South Improv, Renegades Of Spunk, and O.A.T.S. Has studied with Zach Ward, Scott Jennings, Ross White, Ryan Locante, Joseph Kyle Rogan, Sean Conroy, Jesse Parent, Danny Izzo, Anthony King, and Porter Mason.

Austin has performed with Knock Your Socks Off, Off The Wall, Massprov, Kevlar, Allergic to Meat, The Saint, Natural Selection, Landfill Martyr, and The Steve Uribe Solo.

Jady Brooks
Jady Brooks

Jady Brooks, currently a resident of Lincoln Park, in Chicago, is no stranger to travel. The Montana native has lived everywhere from Colorado to Kansas to Michigan to Utah, and visited NYC, Chicago and Portland, OR for improv. She is a current student at DePaul University in Chicago, studying both theatre arts and English literature, and during her free time, works tirelessly as both an intern and student at Improv Olympic.

Jady began improv at the tender age of 16, under the brilliant tutelage of Jesse Parent, Bob Bedore, Joe Rogan, Ryan Locante, and Ben Brinton, among others. She has played with 9 different improv ensembles, Kysoff, Quick Wits (SLC and Clearfield), Off The Wall, The Miss Tree Pageant, Resivorpmi Dawgs, The SLC Skirts, Peddlington and Powerball, and performed with approx.. 150 different improvisors, all of them wonderful, brilliant, and talented.

Jady has taken classes with Charna Halpern, Joe Bill, Ross White, Susan Messing, Paul Grondy, Peter Gwinn and Mick Napier. She has also been quite terrified of Noah Gregoropoulos, Played the wife of Jeff Griggs, ridden a train across from Linda Orr, drank with Al Samuels, played cards with Jason Chin, and checked T.J. Jagadowski's ID. * She will hopefully be making a year-long trip to England in the coming year, and plans on honing her teaching skills for the European masses. When not improvising, Jady reads like a menace, writes like a demon, and sings like an angel.

Ryan Locante
Ryan Locante

In May 2003, Ryan moved to Chicago, IL to pursue his improv passion. While in Utah, Ryan was a member of KYSOff. He started attending the Quick Wits/KYSOff workshops in June of 2001. He also helped organize the Original Trolley Brawl show in April 2003. Although he's only been doing organized improv for a short time now, his whole life path can be linked to improv. Aside from playing [CENSORED] games, that bear an uncanny resemblance to other improv games, and acting in two improvised "Nerf Massacre" movies while at Penn State, Ryan said the unthinkable after graduation, "Yes, and I'll move to Utah..."

Ryan enjoys doing scene work more than anything. In April 2002, Ryan performed in KYSOff's original long-form show, Guacamole Sunrise, at the fifth annual Chicago Improv Festival and also performed as part of The Foul Mohicans in the 2003 Chicago Improv Festival. At the 2003 Del Close Marathon in New York City, Ryan performed with the Long Form team 'The Saint' which included Austin Nava, Ross White, and fellow UtahImprov.com co-editor and TB2 co-producer, Jesse Parent. At Septemberprov, a local long form festival in Utah, he performed with the groups Landfill Martyr and Lisary. He also traveled to Chapel Hill, NC and was part of the CORE cast at Dirty South Improv's 24 LIVE event, improvising (more or less) for 24 straight hours.

Currently, Ryan is taking classes at ImprovOlympic. He is also on the indy team Stewtopia (coached by Sarah Haskins).

Ryan has taken classes or workshops from the following people from Chicago and beyond: Bob Dassie, Peter Gwinn, Jason Chin, Susan Messing, Joe Bill, Mark Sutton, Mick Napier, Ross White, Paul Grondy, John Lutz, Joe Canale, Peter Grosz, TJ Jagadowski, Noah Gregoropoulos, Gary Austin, Tom Salinsky, Jim Zulevic, Patricia Musker, and Charna Halpern.
